If you had walked by me on this day, you probably would have wondered why I was filling a bucket with mud.
I originally hoped this would become a clay body.
It didn’t—but it ended up becoming something even more interesting.
It’s a silty material that I collect from my property. After washing away the clay, sieving it, and drying it, I’m left with a fine powder that I can use as a substitute for silica in some of my glaze recipes.
One of those glazes is Kulli Okchakko, my blue glaze that’s made with nearly 50% local materials.
I love exploring the materials beneath my feet and discovering what they can become.
