Pretty pleased with the results. This is 100% Moon Clay (dug in Moon, Oklahoma), except for the one pot that slumped. That clay was from beside my house.
The Moon clay has 8.2% absorption at cone 10 in oxidation. This firing ranged from cone 11 in the top to cone 9 on the bottom. Part of this was my stacking, I’m sure. An absorption test was done on a piece from the middle shelf (cone 10) and was 4.7%. This is a significant decrease from the 8.2% in oxidation. This is due to iron being a flux in reduction but a stabilizer in oxidation.
My gut feeling is that this clay is going to pinhole badly if I try to glaze it as it’s got some pitting with the iron particles, but I’ll eventually test it.
The small pots will be candles and the larger pieces are flower pots.
