A Local Material in Place of Bought Silica

This is a material I found on one of my clay hunts. Right out of the ground, it would stick together in a ball, but not roll a coil unless it was very wet. As I normally do, I separated out the clay and found that only about 1/4 of the material was clay. The clay was very plastic and had a high drying shrinkage. However, what was left after the clay was removed, turned out to be the real gold.

This material passed through a 100 micron screen (about 140 mesh) and appeared to be quite low in iron (even thought the clay I removed was red). I washed it several times to ensure as much of the clay as possible was removed. I then sent a sample to ALS Global for whole rock analysis to see what I really had.

This could probably be subbed directly into glazes as silica/flint. I either build my own glazes using the chemical analysis or use glazy.org target and solve.
