Limestone tests continued…

This is 100% local to me body. Still not quite sure if the limestone will work as a flux or just be a disaster.

100% Local clay body with 10% limestone

I rolled out all my test tiles yesterday morning for shrinkage/firing tests. This was the remaining 2lb 5oz of the 10% limestone batch.

It threw pretty good. I don’t claim to be an expert thrower. The bat is 12″ for a bit of scale. It’s pretty gritty but that is from the sand in the clay and not the limestone. I suspect this will be slightly over fired at cone 6.

I left it out on my covered deck and was able to flip it after less than 2 hours. Checking the drying shrinkage on my test tiles this morning and it looks like drying shrinkage for this one and the 8% limestone tile are right around 5.5% which is quite good. That’s the type of drying I like. I’m ok with sacrificing a bit of plasticity so that I don’t have to baby them while drying. I just don’t have room to have a bunch of pots drying all at once.
